AN INTERVIEW WITH JACQUELIN S. McCORD
How did you get started writing stories?
When my youngest daughter was four years old she spent she summer teaching herself how to print her name on a straight line so she could get her-library card. I was so moved by her determination and ultimate victory that I wrote a story about it. After reading the story, my family and friends encouraged me to continue to write stories.
Who inspired you to write Christian material?
There was a little girl in my hometown who loved going to church with me. I tried to get her mother to take her to church and she would reply "I'll take her to church when we get straight." I was so deeply touched by this little-girl's struggle I wrote a story about it. I decided the best way to offer children hope and encouragement was through stories that were written within a Christian framework.
What other types of material have you written?
I have written a variety of materials such as: a play that focuses on teen sexuality and friendship; a script for Reader's Theater, about the financial challenges that cause conflict between a husband and a wife; and several other children's stories.
Are there certain themes in your books and other writing materials you hope the reader will understand?
Yes, all of the materials that I have written are focused on the family. The one thing I want my readers to understand - and this is my main theme, is that no matter what challenge or problem you are facing, you can count on God to help you in every situation.
Why did you opt to self publish your books?
Many of well known authors that I have spoken with started out as self published authors before being published by a major publisher. I felt that this would be the best route for me to go as well.
What type of response have you gotten to your books?
Excellent! I've had a great response to the stories, especially from the children.
How can your books be obtained?
My web site: wwwjsmccord.com or the consumer can contact the publisher at 773-363-6613.
